In the presence of a translator, who was not wanted by Zelensky, the Oval Office debacle could have been avoided. <\/strong><\/p>\n This translator would, of course, have allowed the Ukrainian president to be more precise in his communication. But, more importantly, they would have helped to defuse and calm tensions through their choice of words, their calm tone, and their way of conveying Zelensky’s terms. A third party would thus have usefully diluted the ambient aggressiveness and constituted a sort of barrier that would, evidently, have prevented those heated verbal exchanges between the interlocutors.
